Simplify the oil and gas application compliance acceptance process for complete equipment, skid blocks and machinery

For skid devices in dangerous places (explosion-proof), if only the compliance of a single component is considered, it is not enough to complete the compliance evaluation of the complete set of equipment. UL Solutions takes a holistic approach that considers the installation relationship between the entire component assembly and individual components as well as the interlocking function, helping to minimize compliance issues and reduce potential nonspecification items during regulatory inspections. These unplanned difficulties may delay the product's entry into the global market.

Our expertise in understanding hazardous site requirements and local codes enables us to evaluate, evaluate, test, certify and make recommendations for skid blocks, machinery and other types of equipment packages to simplify acceptance by engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), end-user or authorized regulatory authorities.

Compliance evaluation of complete equipment, skid blocks and mechanical devices in the oil and gas sector

Skid blocks are produced by system integrators or oil and gas skid manufacturers and can be evaluated as a complete integrated system consisting of a single piece of equipment.

The modular process skid is a process system contained within the frame, making the process system easy to transport. A single pry can contain a complete process system, and multiple process prys can be combined to create a larger process system or an entire portable device. These skid units include equipment skid blocks, oilfield skid blocks, pump skid blocks and storage tank skid blocks for petroleum, chemical, electrochemical, Marine, production, refining, transportation and oilfield applications.

Regional classification of complete equipment, skid blocks and machinery in the oil and gas sector

Under normal or abnormal conditions, a skid with its own potential release source is required to provide a regional classification document describing the potential release source. This classification may differ from the classification of the area where the skid is to be installed.

Equipment components used in hazardous (classified) locations in the United States can be certified according to UL 2011. In addition, additional protection technical standards may need to be applied in respect of hazardous sites. Wiring shall comply with the applicable hazardous places section of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

IECEx equipment components are evaluated according to IEC TS 60079-46. This standard has been written specifically to address issues related to the certification of equipment components in hazardous locations. For wiring methods, IEC 60079-14 will be used. IEC TS 60079-46 requires the use of ISO 80079-36 for non-electric ignition hazard assessment of equipment. For individual hazardous site equipment, we can assist in validating conditions of use and developing documentation packages.

ATEX explosion-proof electrical equipment assemblies comply with ATEX Directive EN 60079 series and EN/ISO 80079-36.
