Northbrook, Ill., June 29, 2023 / PRNewswire / -- UL Solutions, a global expert in applied safety science, today announced that Certification Body Requirements for Products, Processes and Services has been recognized by the National Accreditation Board (ANAB) of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The Council is a non-governmental organization that provides accreditation services and training to public and private sector bodies.

The announcement comes at a time when certification bodies and regulators are increasingly looking to accrediting bodies to provide third-party assessments of certification bodies, which underlie how products, processes and services are certified. ISO/IEC 17065 addresses key factors for certification bodies to provide a wide range of certification schemes, from requirements related to the general set-up and activities of the institution to certification processes, personnel capabilities and impartiality.

The endorsement applies to UL Solutions functional safety and intended functional safety programs, including:

ISO 26262, Road vehicles - Functional safety

ISO 21448, Road vehicles - Safety of intended functions

ISO 13849, Safety of machinery - safety-related parts of control systems

IEC 61508, Functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related systems

IEC 62061, Safety of machinery - Functional safety of safety related control systems

UL Solutions' functional safety and cybersecurity teams address cybersecurity, functional safety, autonomous driving, and software development processes to help customers bring safer, more secure and innovative products to market.

To achieve this recognition, UL Solutions has demonstrated through ANAB's independent third-party assessment that it meets the requirements set out by ISO/IEC 17065 for certification bodies.

"UL Solutions' Functional Safety and cybersecurity teams leverage our combined expertise to drive safety innovation in the automotive, industrial automation, energy and other industries," said Jody Nelson, managing director of UL Solutions' Functional Safety and Cybersecurity business group. This recognition helps inform the industry that our functional safety and intended functional safety certification programs for our products, processes and services meet internationally recognized standards."
